Christmas Markets and Activities in Bristol, Bath and Cardiff...

The festive season is nearly upon us once again so what better time to give you the low down on some of the festive activities and Christmas markets being held in the South West and Wales.

We take a look at Christmas events being held in Bristol, Bath and Cardiff…

Bath Christmas Market - 25th November – 12th December

Bath, Home of Bath Christmas Market

Bath: a South West gem known worldwide for its Bath Stone and Roman Baths. Its great shopping and partying atmosphere also make it ideal for those interested in stag dos and hen nights but at this time of year the city comes to live thanks to an impressive Christmas market.

The Bath Christmas market is situated between Bath Abbey and the Roman Baths and is a shopping haven: 129 traditional wooden chalets offer range of unique and hand crafted gifts designed to suit all tastes and budgets.

Visitors can also enjoy a range of different foods and drinks from mince pies and mulled wine to German Bratwurst.

The Bath Christmas market has been extended by 7 days this year due to its popularity and so will run from 25th November – 12th December.

Opening hours for the Bath Christmas Market are as follows:

Christmas Activities in Bristol – Throughout November and December

Bristol, Home of the Clifton Suspension Bridge

Bristol: a vibrant and lively city known for its fantastic pubs, historic landscape and unmistakable accent, and now home to an array of Christmas activities for all ages to enjoy!

It would seem Bristolians are celebrating Christmas in style this year with a number of fairs, attractions and Santa’s grottos.

German Christmas Market: 11th November – 22nd December

Thirty traditional German market stalls rammed with authentic crafts, arts, Christmas gifts plus sweets and food including bratwurst and sauerkraut.

Find the Bristol German Market at The Podium, Broadmead East and on Merchant Street South.

Opening hours: - Monday to Saturday 10am - 8pm, food and bar until 9:30pm - Sundays – 10am to 7pm

Santa’s Grotto: 19th November – 24th December

Go on, you know you want to sit on Santa’s knee! Check out Santa’s snowy retreat on the ground floor of The Mall Bristol.

The Bristol Christmas Market: 29th November – 10th December

The newest addition to the festive celebrations – the Bristol Christmas market showcases the best in local produce including arts and crafts as well as food and drink.

The market can be found on Broadmead West (between the Podium and Union Street), with some traders located on the ground floor of The Mall Bristol.

Ice Skating Rink: 11th November – Early 2011

Really get into the Christmas mood with a bit of ice skating! For the first time ever, Quakers Friars will become home to an ice skating rink where people can skate to their heart’s content.

The rink is made using synthetic ice and uses less power than conventional ice rinks, making it an eco-friendly rink.

Cardiff Christmas Market – 4th and 5th December

Cardiff Bay, Cardiff

Cardiff: the Welsh capital and home to the Millennium Stadium as well as shed loads of cultural and recreational landmarks and attractions (and yes, that does include lots of clubs and pubs as well!).

For the first time ever, Cardiff will be home to an official Christmas market located on Cardiff Bay where stallholders will sell handcrafted goods and edible pleasures.

The market will coincide with the switching on of Cardiff’s Christmas lights and to truly get the party started the event will also include fireworks and fairground rides: a fun day out for all members of the family!

The Cardiff Christmas market and festive celebrations will kick off on Saturday 4th (December) at 12.00 noon and run until 8.00pm. The celebrations will continue on Sunday 5th at 11.00am until 5.00pm.

For more information visit the Cardiff Christmas market website.

As you can see, the cities of Bristol, Bath and Cardiff are packed with Christmas activities just waiting to be explored, so why not head on down to one (or all!) of them and encounter these festive treats for yourself?!
